Provider Overview:
Founded in early 2003 by former UUNET Managers, we were originally named Full Mesh Networks. The idea was simple – find a way to deliver complicated and expensive security technology over the Internet as a set of managed services. Among other things, we developed a hosted platform to secure and manage Wi-Fi networks, as well as perform Wireless Intrusion Prevention, all over the Internet.
As we wrestled with our unexpected dilemma of being “cheaper, better, faster,” opportunity was knocking and we almost missed it.
Turns out, we had the right idea, but we were talking to the wrong people.
With identity theft, unsecured wi-fi, and assaults on online privacy spreading across the globe like a mutated pathogen, the folks with the greatest need for simple and powerful data security were not large businesses, but small companies and individuals. We also thought it sounded like a lot more fun.
We went to work and in March 2005 we launched personalVPN™ to anonymize you online as well as encrypt your data across untrusted networks.

Hi there,I’m thinking that WiTopia previdod you with the incorrect instructions. You should choose almost any other site than one listed in Asia. Choose one of the USA sites and you should be up and running.[] Reply:February 19th, 2011 at 6:45 pmI just tried. Still doesn’t work with Witopia. I’m connected right now through Atlanta, GA and youtube failed me again.[]Heidi Reply:April 22nd, 2011 at 8:30 amHi Mike,Have you tried right clicking Witopia and choosing run as administrator? I’ve been using Witopia for more than a year now without any problem, always being able to connect to any site from any of their given locations. What wears me down though is how ridiculously slow internet is in Shanghai (with or without any VPN). Hope this helps![] Reply:April 22nd, 2011 at 7:51 pmI attempted this before, but it didn’t work. Unfortunately, that combined with bad customer service soured my thoughts on Witopia.Agreed the slow internet in Shanghai is a major nuisance.Hope your tip helps other Witopia customers. Thanks!
Witopia is now blocked in China.
This is my second year with WiTopia’s VPN service. The support staff is very helpful and friendly, a very rare thing in this business. My special thanks to Jamie from support!
Worked good for me. They have many USA servers to choose from, so if one is too slow or blocked by hulu, there’s always another available server.
I’ve found them to be excellent, have never had any problems with it, even though when local Internet access is slow, Witopia also crawls, but I guess that`s out of their hands.
I’ve used witopia for a long time and find them OK but very slow quite often.
I think the openvpn client slows things down a bit so if possible it`s better to just go with the builtin VPN client.
Mike,Can you share results from spesetdet.net? I’m currently a Witopia user. Sounds like my experience isn’t much different than yours with Witopia.[] Reply:February 5th, 2011 at 6:04 amThat’s a good idea, I’ll try to remember when I return to China (I am in the USA now). I didn’t see much of a difference in speed with and without VPN connections for normal websites. Both Witipia and Net Ignition run normal sites about the same (as far as I could tell). However, I don’t really care about this with VPN connections instead, I care about being able to access sites like youtube and facebook. To be honest, I’m starting to wonder if Witopia even works at all is it just saying it’s working?Good to know that I’m not the only one experiencing these problems. My 1 year with Witopia is about to end. I think it goes without saying that I won’t be renewing.[]
Bump. My Witopia account just expired and I’m not going to renew. Too slow and the connection seems to drop out constantly.
I’ve used WiTopia for more than two years now and it’s generally worked very reliably. You have to play around with it a bit to find out what servers work best for you.
Also sometimes the PPTP service does not work on some networks but the SSL has been reliable.
I use Witopia, very satisfied.
For 40usd/year you get a pretty reliable vpn service. That`s like 3$ per month!
